A family boat day on Lake Travis: tube, swim, cove, and a captain who runs it

Two families, or three generations, a Sunday morning, kids from five to fifteen. Most of them want the tube and a swim more than a surf wave, so the pontoon is the honest boat: room for twelve, shade, a lily pad in the water, a cove to anchor in. The surf family gets the Nautique and Jacob in the water with the teenagers.

Life jackets on every child under 13 at all times, which is Texas law and also just how we run it. A parent signs for each child on the dock QR; it takes about twenty seconds on a phone.

  • 3 hours on the Watersports, up to 10 guests

Both include the captain, fuel, the tube and lily pad, life vests in every size, towels, and a cooler with ice and water. The pontoon is not a surf boat; we say so because it matters. A 50% deposit holds the morning.

Bring

  • Swimsuits, sunscreen, hats. Rash guards for the little ones; the Texas sun is the one thing we cannot shade on the Nautique.
  • Snacks and drinks. Cans and plastic only, no glass. Alcohol is fine for adults 21 and over, in moderation; nobody rides after drinking.
  • A towel per person beyond the ones we carry, if you like your own.

Good to know

  • Sunday mornings are calm water and empty coves. By two the lake is choppy; book early.
  • Kids under 13 wear a life jacket the whole time. Everyone else wears one when riding.
  • Every adult signs the waiver on their phone beforehand; a parent signs for each child.
  • Weather is our call, on the day. Full refund or a new date if we cancel.

Lake Travis, west of Austin, Texas. Pickup at your lake house dock, or at our usual spot in Hudson Bend, between Lakeway and Lago Vista; people drive in from Jonestown, Cedar Park and Leander. We send directions before the trip.
