Travis Wake Charters: two people and one boat on Lake Travis
Travis Wake Charters is Joe Mohn’s charter business out of Austin, Texas, running on Lake Travis and meeting guests at our dock, 5931 Hi Line Rd, Austin, TX 78734, in Hudson Bend, near Lakeway. Joe captains the Nautique, Jacob Jensen coaches the wakesurf lessons, and the boat goes out with the gear, the cooler and the fuel already on it.
Joe was born and raised on Lake Travis. He was carving his first wake at eight years old with his family watching from the boat, and he has been wakesurfing, wakeboarding and riding anything with a board on it ever since. He spent years teaching friends and then paying clients how to get up and ride, and at some point that turned into a company.
We did not start this to rent out a boat. The idea was to take people out the way we go out ourselves: the captain drives, the boards and vests are already in the boat, the cooler has ice and water in it, and the day goes wherever the group wants it to go. A first-timer who wants real instruction gets it. A bachelorette party that wants music and a cove gets that instead.
The boat carries up to twelve. It comes with tubes, surfboards, lily pads, life vests, boards and ropes. The lessons are taught by a dedicated wakesurf instructor, one on one, so you get coaching at your level rather than a captain shouting over the engine.
Joe captains most trips himself. The goal is simple enough: when somebody in Austin thinks about a day on the water, we want to be the first call.

Four ways people book us
Wakesurf lessons
Jacob coaches from the boat. First time up or working on tricks.
Book it for yourself, the family, or a few friends who all want to learn.
A lesson can also be added to any charter.
Cove day
We anchor somewhere good and you swim, float, play music and stay a while.
Bachelor and bachelorette parties
A private boat for the group for the day. Surf if you want to, float if you do not, and take in the views either way. Boat, captain and all the equipment are included. Tell us what the group is like and we will plan the day with you.
We will also captain your own boat
If you have the boat and would rather host than drive, one of us runs it for the day. Surf sets, tube pulls, or a slow lap with the music up. Your boat stays on your registration and your insurance, and you sign our hired-captain release for everyone aboard.
- Rate
- $110 an hour, two-hour minimum. Billed on the hours actually run and settled at the dock when you tie up.
- How to book
- Phone only. Every boat is different and we want to ask a few questions first. Text or call with the date, your ramp or marina, and the boat (make, length, how many aboard). We confirm a captain and a time.

Jacob learned to surf in the Gulf of Mexico, growing up on the canal in Galveston. His family moved to Costa Rica when he was twelve. There were no organised sports where he lived, so he surfed, every day, for three years.
He came out of that with four amateur championships and having competed on both coasts of Costa Rica and around Central America. Austin looked like the worst possible move for a surfer, with no ocean and no waves. Instead it made him more well-rounded, between wakesurfing on Lake Travis and the wave at Waco.
What he cares about as an instructor is that you feel comfortable and safe behind the boat, whether it is your first time or you are levelling up. Not just teaching someone to ride, but helping them enjoy the process and build the confidence.
