Jacob - Instructor

Who am I as a Person/Surf instructor?

I was born in Galveston, right on the bay, and grew up living in a house on the canal where everything started for me. I learned how to surf in the Gulf of Mexico, and yeah, people would always make fun of the dirty, murky water. But honestly, I didn’t care if there were waves, I was out there. I spent about twelve years there building friendships and learning how to surf all kinds of conditions before my family made a huge move to Costa Rica. At the time, I was sad to leave my friends, but that decision ended up changing everything for me.

In Costa Rica, there weren’t many organized sports where I lived, so I surfed every single day. I finally found a community of people who loved surfing as much as I did, and from that point on, it became my lifestyle, not just a hobby. After about three years of nonstop surfing different surf spots, and different conditions I really found my rhythm and progressed a lot, eventually winning four amateur championships and competing on both coasts of Costa Rica and around Central America.

When we later moved to Austin, it seemed like the worst place for a surfer with no ocean, no waves but I adapted. Between wake surfing on Lake Travis and surfing at Waco Surf, I’ve become more well-rounded and knowledgeable than ever. Now, I have the opportunity to teach wake surfing on Lake Travis, and it’s something I’m truly passionate about. As an instructor, I focus on making sure people feel comfortable, safe, and confident behind the boat whether it’s their first time or they’re trying to level up. For me, it’s not just about teaching someone how to ride, it's about helping them enjoy the process, build confidence, and have a great time on the water.
